So I’ve been waiting for this day a long time. My book Wilcopedia: A Comprehensive Guide to the Music of America's Best Band is being unleashed on the world (actually it started showing up on bookstore shelves over a week ago, but no matter).
To celebrate Wilcopedia’s release, I thought I’d share an alternate version of the front cover. The great graphic designer, Paul Palmer-Edwards, offered up this very different jacket that I came close to choosing:
Pretty cool, huh? My issue with it is that with all the neon stars it looks more like a cover for a Big Star book (Jawbone actually has a Big Star book in their roster). The yellow-styled design with the buildings, and musical gear seems better suited to Wilco I believe, but I still really like the alternate take, as I do with a lot of Wilco’s songs.
Tonight, I’ll be appearing at So & So Books in Raleigh, N.C. to read a bit from Wilcopedia, answer some questions, and sign some books. If you’re in the area, please stop by. 8 p.m.
Today, Wilco HQ announced a batch of new tour dates including shows at St. Paul’s Palace Theater in November, and the return of Wilco Winterlude taking place on December 15, 16, 18, and 19 at the Chicago Theatre.
Lastly, there’s this new video of “Everyone Hides” from Wilco’s upcoming album Ode to Joy (releasing October 4) that dropped this morning. It involves the band playing a wacky game of Hide and Go Seek, but one member doesn’t seem to want to engage.
More later...
